Were you in the bleachers cheering on a high school football game in Spring Valley in the 1940’s? Were you a fan of football player Daniel Fortman or golfer Howie Pierson? Did you know that the New York Knickerbockers, Babe Ruth and Leo Durocher and the Dodgers all came to Rockland?

With rare, archival photographs, sports equipment and memorabilia, this retrospective covers many of the athletes, teams and events that have made Rockland a great place for sports, both organized and informal.

Tony Award winning actress Michelle Pawk (“Broadway Arms”) stars in the New York premiere of Chicago playwright Joel Drake Johnson’s “The Fall to Earth.” When Fay and her daughter Rachel are brought together for the first time in years, their funny, frustrating relationship flames up anew, while a well-meaning cop is caught in the middle. This off-beat, heartbreaking new work examines how the relationship between a parent and a child constantly changes, yet always seems to stay the same.

Individual tickets to mainstage productions are $32, and $16 for young people (30 and under). Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. Special reduced-priced weekday matinee performances for groups are available.

Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday nights at 8 p.m., with matinees on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Win Zibeon exhibits his new illusionistic paintings at the Piermont Flywheel Gallery. The canvases are carefully shaped, but you hardly notice, you are so taken aback that what seems three dimensional is only two. These are subtle paintings which tackle difficult environmental issues.

His painting “Clandestine” shows the merest corner of the ornate, gold, lacy frame and landscape painting which seems to have been concealed under a billowing silk skirt. The painting “I Told You Not To Shake The Bottle,” is a bucolic landscape marred by what appear to be ink splotches, but they are on the frame too. A painting showing the quiet English countryside bathed in sunset has a reminder that, before mankind, dinosaurs once roamed the hills. His painting “Riptide” shows a seascape in a frame completely ripped in two – the pieces appear to be stacked together upside down. He says simply, “This is how we are treating our earth.”
An artist reception will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 2 - 5 p.m. Gallery hours are Thursday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m., Friday and Saturday 1-9 p.m. and by appointment.

These grants are intended to assist with payment of artist fees, marketing fees, other arts-related expenses and direct administrative expenses for projects occurring in Rockland County during 2009.

All applicants must either attend an information meeting of meet with Arts Council Staff. Reservations required.

Tony Award winning actress Michelle Pawk (“Broadway Arms”) stars in the New York premiere of Chicago playwright Joel Drake Johnson’s “The Fall to Earth.” When Fay and her daughter Rachel are brought together for the first time in years, their funny, frustrating relationship flames up anew, while a well-meaning cop is caught in the middle. In conclusion of RCC’s Rockland Shakespeare Company’s tenth year anniversary, they, along with the Performing Arts Department, will present their own unique version of “Titus Andronicus,” Shakespeare’s first tragedy and his most violent play. “Titus Andronicus” is a truly tragic tale of power, ambition and reckless abandon...but most of all, it is a tale about revenge. For Titus, revenge is a dish best served hot!

Due to adult themes and gratuitous violence, this play may not be suitable to those under 13. Parental discretion is advised.
