About the Awards
The Board of Directors of the Arts Council of Rockland proudly announces the return of the organization's Annual Arts Awards. The gala evening will take place on Wednesday, May 1 at 6:30pm at The Nyack Seaport, 42 Burd Street, Nyack NY.
The Arts Council of Rockland has selected Elliott Forrest, WQXR Radio host and Executive Director of ArtsRock; Daly Flanagan, Executive Director for Rockland Center for the Arts (RoCA); and former County Executive, C. Scott Vanderhoef to be honored at this year's event.
Elliott Forrest is a Peabody Award-winning broadcaster and producer on New York's Classical Radio Station, WQXR. As the Founding Artistic and Executive Director of ArtsRock, he has been instrumental in elevating the quality of performing arts in Rockland for all residents to enjoy without leaving the county.
Daly Flanagan is a tireless supporter of the arts and arts education in Rockland County. She has been developing and providing innovative art programming for Rockland County's diverse community for over 18 years, often in partnership with other community organizations and local schools.
Scott Vanderhoef is being honored for his support in championing the County Arts Awards during his time as County Executive from 1994 to 2013.
In addition to celebrating the honorees, the Arts Council of Rockland will recognize artists nominated and selected by their peers in the arts community. This year's awards categories are Performing Artist Award, Visual Artist Award, Literary Artist Award, Arts Education Award, and the Arts Longa Award, a special award honoring a long-time supporter of the arts.

Performing Artist Award
The Performing Artist Award is presented to a public performer who has enhanced the Arts in the Community through public performance of music, theater, dance or other performance activity.
Literary Artist Award
The Literary Artist Award is presented to a writer, literary agent, bookseller, writer's group, publisher, or organization that has been committed to the advancement of Literature in Rockland County.
Visual Artist Award
The Visual Arts Awards is presented to an individual who has demonstrated excellence in the area of fine arts, photography, graphic arts, video, film, sculpture, metal, glass, clay, resin or other visual media.
Arts Education Award
The Arts Education Award is presented to an Rockland- based educator, teaching artist, arts or educational administrator, school, school district or organization that, through extraordinary vision and leadership, has expanded or enriched arts education opportunities to students in Rockland County.
Arts Leadership Award
The Arts Leadership Award is presented to an individual or group people who has shown visionary leadership within an organization of the Arts in Rockland County.
Arts Longa Award
The Arts Longa Award honors a longtime supporter of the Arts. Upon reccommendation by the membership and selected by the Board of ACOR. This award may be awarded posthsumosily. It is bestowed on an individual or organization that has made a long lasting or lifetime commitment to the Arts in Rockland County.
Who can nominate? Nominators are anyone who resides in the United States of America. Individuals and Organizations may NOT nominate themselves

How many nominations can be submitted? Nominators may submit ONE nomination per category.
Who is eligible to receive an award? Eligibility is limited to Rockland County Residents or employees of businesses, schools and organizations that operate primarily in Rockland County. Nominees are not required to be members of the Arts Council of Rockland although, upon accepting the award ACOR may ask you to join. Staff, Board of Directors, and Advisory Council members of ACOR are not eligible to receive awards.
How will the awardee be selected? Awards will determined by a vote of the membership of the Arts Council of Rockland with the exception of the Ars Longa award which be selected based by the Board of Directors of the Arts Council of Rockland.
What does the Awardee receive? The awardee will receive recognition at the annual gala awards ceremony, a trophy and certificate commemorating the event. Recognition will also begin at the state and local levels via in print and digital media as well as in 2019 - 20 publications produced by the Arts Council of Rockland.
