On Thursday, March 21, 2019, the Rockland recipients of the Arts Alive grants program, administered by ArtsWestchester and made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts, gathered at the Arts Council of Rockland for a networking breakfast. Grants were made in three categories: Community Projects, Individual Artists, and Arts Education.
Participants shared information about their respective projects, which ranged from an interactive theater piece by Tolstoy to musical theater classes for adults with developmental disabilities, from original songs based on interviews with people affected by war to “memoirs in a bottle” created by 8th graders based on stories told to them by senior citizens. Grantees talked about their process and the impact of their projects, both on the artists and on their audiences. The group shared resources and learnings with each other.
