Easel Dreams: A Father and Son Exhibit

Our latest exhibit, "Easel Dreams," by father and son Richard and Justin Smith will be at the ACOR Members' Gallery through January 25, 2019.  General gallery hours are Wednesday and Friday from 12:00-2:00pm, by appointment, and additional special events and hours to be determined.

Richard Smith is a songwriter, illustrator, independent gospel recording artist, worship pastor and a recently retired educator. Husband, father, and lifelong resident of Rockland County, Richard has been a steady presence in the tri-state area for decades. As a young artist growing up in Haverstraw, NY he was mentored by Rockland’s own George White and Fredrick Taubes. As a result, Richard went on to teach art for ten years in the East Ramapo school district. Versatile in the skillful use of oils, acrylics, colored pencils, pastels, as well as charcoals he has illustrated several children’s book covers along with penning his own entitled “Grandpa’s Eyes”. His desire is to enjoy retirement while continuing with recordings, exhibits, and authoring his own series of children’s books.

Justin Smith is an actor, poet, and artist. A lifelong resident of Rockland County, he has graced the stage at the Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack, written articles for local magazines, and has had the opportunity to share his work at several shows, productions, and events throughout the area. Last year he had the honor of exhibiting a solo art show at the Union Arts Center in Sparkill, NY. He is skilled in creating unique, bright, & colorful abstract artwork utilizing acrylics, pastels, spray paint, and interweaving collage techniques as well. Growing up within a stone’s throw proximity to the Garner Arts Center, it has been a goal of his to someday be able to create and eventually display work here so it is truly a pleasure for those goals to materialize. Justin plans to continue being a multi-faceted creative force for years to come.
