“Taking the Struggle to the Streets: Community Activism,” Photography by Collette V. Fournier
The Arts Council of Rockland is pleased to host photographer Collette V. Fournier’s virtual exhibition titled, “Taking the Struggle to the Streets: Community Activism,” on view October-November 2020. Accompanying the exhibition is an interview with the artist by Bill Batson of the Nyack Sketch Log.
In the artist’s own words: “As an artist/photographer, we often travel through various stages to communicate our feelings and opinions. Images presented in “Taking the Struggle to the Streets: Community Activism” are a compilation of my visual interpretations from over the years. Having been raised in the sixties and seventies, one genre that never swayed from my soul was the documentation of our civil rights which included die-ins, rallies, marches, memorials of historians and fallen leaders. So many leaders put their lives on the line to make our lives better.
Whether shot in black and white or color, analogue or digital, I relied on the documentation of the event to stimulate my vision bringing together elements of composition, light, form, environmental portraiture and the decisive moment.”
The exhibition is currently on view here through the end of November 2020. A Virtual Art Reception will take place on Wednesday, October 14 @ 7PM EST. Details, including zoom link, can be found here.
“Together 1,” by Charlotte Mouquin, Oil on Canvas, 36” x 36”
“Balancing Chaos” by Charlotte Mouquin
Also on view now through November 2020, is “Balancing Chaos,” by Charlotte Mouquin.
Balancing Chaos highlights new work by artist Charlotte Mouquin. This virtual exhibition of abstractions is a collective portrait that reflects our everyday lives. Oil on canvas, and mixed media water based media pieces depict mental maps, memory, unfolding journeys, interaction, and micro/macrocosmic maps of collective challenges, hopes, and perseverance.
Mouquin’s current visual vocabulary has been developed over the past decade plus, going back to the beginning of Art School in 2000. Personal narratives, trauma and strength are addressed through the shapes, lines and colors with an evolving catharsis for the visceral mediums. Works on paper begin with watercolor, ink or gouache, and then get defined through acrylic line work, and black ink.
The new 2020 Silver Lining Drawing series includes silver leaf and allude to the glimmers of hope despite challenging times. The spiraling shapes, forms and pathways provoke hope and healing despite current events or collective trauma.
The exhibition is currently on view here through the end of November 2020. A Virtual Art Reception will take place on Wednesday, October 14 @ 7PM EST.
